Good things come to those who wait...
Percutaneous neuromodulation therapy (PNT) is a treatment that consists in using low- to medium-frequency electrical current to a peripheral nerve or muscle, by using a thin needle as an electrode in order to lessen the pain and restore both neuromuscular and nervous system functions.
PNT is used specially for conditions like nerve related pain (such as sciatica), peripheral neuropathy, low back pain and chronic pain, but can also be used in other MSK conditions.
PNT is primarily a rehabilitative treatment, however, it can be used as a preventative measure for athletes by improving performance and modulating neuromuscular function.
PNT may also be referred to as percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS) and while several fine needles might be inserted into the skin for this procedure, the treatment is relatively painless, and patients shouldn’t feel any considerable discomfort throughout the process.
PNT is a very safe treatment, however if you are pregnant or have implantable cardiac devices like pacemakers or defibrillators, and bleeding disorders you should avoid this treatment. It is also recommended to avoid having PNT in active infections, epilepsy, or severe cardiorespiratory disease.
We have extremely high-standard treatment facilities as well as a range of top health consultants on hand to help.
An initial PNT session usually lasts one hour and involves an assessment of your general health, medical history and a physical examination, followed by insertion of the needles. It is recommended that you bring results from any recent blood test for the practitioner to study and be aware of. Courses of treatment often involve several separate sessions, but this can vary.
Your practitioner may need to access areas under your clothes, it may be easier for the practitioner to remove items of clothing. However, they do recommend wearing loose clothing so that sleeves can be rolled up above the elbows and trouser legs can be pulled up above the knees.
Feel free to bring your own towels with you for use on the treatment couch during the session.
– Targets nerves and soft tissues directly through minimally invasive needle placement
– Helps reduce pain by modulating abnormal nerve activity
– Improves muscle function by restoring normal neuromuscular signaling
– Enhances local blood flow, supporting tissue healing and recovery
– Can decrease inflammation in the affected area
– Offers a drug-free alternative for managing acute or chronic pain
– May improve range of motion and mobility in dysfunctional areas
